Heartland Trail Construction Record
I39 Underpass, Stevens Point
Fall, 2008
by: Jack Friess and Mike Zurawski
Construction of the "Heartland Trail", an alternate route for bikes and pedestrians to cross Highway I39, has been in the works since 2004. The idea for a path under I39 at the Canadian National Rairoad's underpass was first presented to the City of Stevens Point by Heartland Club Member Rolf Garthus. Plans, including blue prints, were developed; grants were sought and acquired; agreements were reached; WisDOT approval and funding obtained; and construcion began in October, 2008. Here is a photo record of the construction of this our "Heartland Trail". (Photos by Mike Zurawski, Heartland Member.)
