The "Ribbon Cutting Ceremony" is set for Wedesday, August 11th, 2010 at 5:30 at the
Trail head (east end of Joerns Drive).

July 21, 2010 The concrete approaches at both ends of the trail have been placed, so the "Heartland Trail" is now complete. A dedication and ribbon cutting--official opening--is being scheduled for mid-August. (See the Heartland calendar for more details.)
June 16, 2010 They are pecking away at the remaining unfinished parts of the Path (see "To DO List" below): * Spread black top soil along edges of Path; * Sprayed grass seed on most (northern) segments. We'll try to get some photos soon.
June 4, 2010 There has been significant progress on the Path this week. The Path is definitely "rideable" even with road bikes. 1) The asphalt has been laid!! 2) Things yet to do: * Finish cutting the curb on the east end; lay the asphalt for the approach from the street to the Path; * Clean up the approach on the west end; add asphalt to match up with road; * Lay top soil along Path edges; plant grass. Here are some photos taken yesterday (click image to enlarge):

May 30, 2010 A site visit yesterday revealed this and these photos: 1) The trail approches all have been graded and prepared for blacktoping; 2) Road material has been placed and compacted. The trail is ridable from beginning to end. Here are some photos (click image to enlarge):

May 20, 2010 Our investigations and contacts with officials of the City of Stevens Point have revealed this: 1) Construction of the paved portions of the path approaches on the east and west side were delayed last summer due to the installation of sewer system pipes under I-39 in the vicinity of the trail. 2) Construction this spring of these trail segments was held up due to funding issues related to the grant monies falling short of funds needed. Project costs increased because of higher costs of asphalt. Additional funding has been approved by DOT and the project can now resume. 3) Final construction of these asphalt trail segments has resumed. 4) Surveying and staking of the path have been accomplished. Laying of the road material base and asphalt for the path should commence soon. Heartland Bike & Nordic Ski Club
